Workshop n°1: REE as emerging contaminants: Properties, uses and dissemination

To bring participants from different backgrounds to the same level with regards to fundamental REE biogeochemistry and currently known anthropogenic REE inputs into the environment; the necessity of including yttrium in REE environmental studies.

  • Network spirit building: time for own presentation and experience exchange between ESRs and supervisors;
  • Distribution and behaviour of the REE and yttrium in natural systems;
  • Known anthropogenic REE inputs from various sources;
  • Procedures to recognize the presence of anthropogenic REE emissions;
  • Introduction to REE potential societal questions and applications, e.g. REE as targets of deep-sea mining.

Transferable skills: Science business (consulting, patent) and research skills (grant proposal writing, ethics, gender aspect).
